Orange Juice and Herb Grilled Salmon

October 5, 2017
by Curt

Orange juice imparts a deliciously sweet flavor to fish when used as a marinade. Add in some herbs and you will create a very sweet and savory flavor profile for your grilled salmon.

I was extremely pleased at how this turned out. And I wasn’t surprised at all when all that tried it asked for seconds!

Orange Juice and Herb Grilled Salmon

Ingredients

  • 3 cups orange juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped basil
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives
  • 3 pounds salmon (skin removed)

Preparation

  1. Combine the orange juice and herbs together and pour into a plastic zip-loc bag.
  2. Remove and discard the skin from your salmon fillets and add the salmon to the marinade in the zip-loc bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. Get a medium hot grill going and place the fillets on a grill screen atop of the grill grate above the coals.
  4. Bring the salmon fillets to an internal temperature of 135° F, flipping the fillets once.

Grilled Orange Juice Salmon

Grilled Orange Juice Salmon-postWhat an awesome marinade for salmon. This adds such a deliciously sweet flavor to the salmon. And of course, grilling with charcoal always adds a nice flavor to whatever you have on the grill.

So, make up this marinade with some salmon fillets, get the grill going, and make those taste buds start jumpin’ for joy!

Grilled Orange Juice Salmon

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs. salmon fillets
  • Marinade
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 Tablespoon honey
  • 4 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder

Preparation

  1. Optional: Remove the skin from the salmon fillets. (I generally remove the skin before marinating, but you can also very easily remove the skin with a spatula about 2 minutes after putting the fillets on the grill). Or you can certainly grill with the skin on if you prefer.
  2. Place the fillets into a plastic bag and set aside.
  3. Mix all the marinade ingredients together in a microwave safe bowl and place in the microwave on high for 15 seconds. This allows the powdered spices to mix with the liquids better. Pour the marinade into the bag with the salmon. Remove all the air and seal the bag. Place it into the refrigerator to marinate for 30 minutes.
  4. Get a medium hot grill going and place the fillets directly over the coals. Note: You can use a separate screen with smaller holes to keep the fish from falling through the grate, or I use a fish basket.
  5. Grill until just done. To help know when it's done, the internal temperature of the fish at it's thickest part should be about 135° F.

Grilled Sweet Soy Salmon

Grilled Sweet Soy Salmon-postWe just can’t get enough salmon around our house. We seems to choose salmon more than any other fish, or meat for that matter when it comes to grilling time.

My wife put this marinade together using soy sauce as the base, and sweetened it up with brown sugar and honey infused vinegar. Man is this good. Our only mistake for the grill out was not getting enough salmon, because everyone was asking for more!

Grilled Sweet Soy Salmon

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pounds salmon fillets
  • 1/2 cup honey infused vinegar (found in Asian section of grocery store)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon allspice

Preparation

  1. Rinse the salmon fillets and remove the skin. Place the fillets in a plastic container, or a plastic bag.
  2. Combine all the marinade ingredients, and microwave on high for about 15 seconds. (Just long enough to help dissolve the allspice.) Whisk to mix.
  3. Pour the marinade over the salmon fillets and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  4. Once marinated, remove and discard the excess marinade and set the fillets out at room temperature, (no longer than a half hour or so), while you prepare your grill.
  5. Grill over a medium hot fire turning the fillets once. For the average fillets, this should take about 5 minutes per side.

Oriental Grilled Salmon-postI just can’t say enough about salmon. It’s probably one of the most popular fish for all types of cooking. It’s definitely one of my top favorites, although I’d have to say my number one favorite fish would be flounder. Especially for grilling.

But on the other hand, salmon is definitely my wife’s favorite choice, so we definitely make a lot of it. This recipe, with an oriental flair, was created by my wife. This turned out very tasty. I really love the flavor that the Chinese Five Spice adds to fish.

Oriental Grilled Salmon

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. salmon fillets
  • Marinade
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice

Preparation

  1. Rinse the salmon fillets and remove the skin. Place the fillets in a plastic container, or a plastic bag.
  2. Combine all the marinade ingredients, and microwave on high for about 15 seconds. (Just long enough to help dissolve the Chinese Five Spice.)
  3. Pour the marinade over the salmon fillets and marinade in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  4. Once marinated, remove and discard the excess marinade and set the fillets out at room temperature, (no longer than a half hour or so), while you prepare your grill.
  5. Grill over a medium hot fire turning the fillets once. For the average fillets, this should take about 5 minutes per side.
