Southwestern Turkey Burger

This weekend, my wife and I got creative. We bought some ground turkey and decided that we would each make up our own recipe. My wife likes the more subtle flavors. When I say that, I don’t mean boring, I mean she just tends to put flavors together in a more subtle way, where I tend to get a little carried away.

Each of these styles have their place in people’s food interests and likings. So having said that, I know that there will be a lot of people that will thoroughly enjoy both of these recipes.

So, being the southern gentleman that I am, I introduced my wife’s recipe first in “Turkey Taco Burger“. And now I’ll introduce mine. So let’s take a look at it. The cumin flavor really comes through nicely in this southwestern flavored burger.

Southwestern Turkey Burger

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded) (I used Reduced Fat)
  • 1/4 cup onions (diced)
  • 1/4 cup carrots (shredded)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cilantro (dried & chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the turkey burger and all the other ingredients together. Now form this into patties. I could have made 5 medium sized patties, but I went for the 4 big fat patties, because that’s just the way I am!
  2. Grill them on a medium hot grill until they’re cooked to your liking. They cooked real nice. I was afraid the cheese in there would start burning, but it wasn’t a problem at all.
  3. Put them on your favorite type of bun with all the fixings you like. Like I said above, the cumin flavor was very strong.

I considered tweaking the recipe after eating the first burger, to reduce the cumin just a bit, but decided that it was perfect the way it is. I do love the flavor of cumin. It always takes me back to my days in Texas. Seems to be one of those flavors that brings a flood of memories with it.

Just look at these beauties on the grill. Mouth watering, aren’t they?
