Let me explain the title right away. About a year ago, our second cat, Rocky, started developing stomach problems. Well, that was in part caused from the severe gingivitis he was developing, causing him not to be able to chew the standard crunchy cat food. So, to help with both issues, my wife did some research, and made up special food for him. To be honest, it’s pretty damn tasty! It’s all healthy and sugar free ingredients.
We love it, and Rocky’s stomach issues are solved. (Unfortunately the gingivitis isn’t!)
Of course, when we eat it, we spice it up a bit with the usual salt and pepper, but Rocky prefers it bland. (Yes, he did tell me that!). Okay, I know, he has to have it without spices.
A note for anyone that might see this and relate this to their cat’s issues, you need to also add Taurine to this for the cat’s eye health. Something normally added in all cat foods.
So, check out the ingredients and you’ll see it really is tasty, healthy and a mighty fine chicken salad that goes well with crackers, as a sandwich, or even a condiment. Whatever fits your personal preferences and diet.
Chicken Salad~ People Food or Cat Food?
Ingredients
3 lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts
3/4 uncooked white rice
1/2 apple (your choice)
10 baby carrots
1 3/4 to 2 cups plain unsweetened yogurt
Preparation
1) Boil the 3 lbs. of chicken breasts for about 30 minutes, or until tender and fully cooked. Cut these into 1 to 2 inch chunks. Put into a food processor and grind until it’s finely chopped. Set aside in a large mixing bowl.
2) Following the instructions on the box of white rice, cook the rice. Drain any excess water and add it to the chicken.
3) Cut the apple and carrots into smaller pieces for the food processor, and grind these until their finely chopped. Now add this to the chicken and rice mixture.
4) Add in the yogurt as needed and mix well to achieve the consistency you like.
Note: We store these in 1 cup containers to use as needed. They freeze very well.
Makes 8 cups.

That Rocky is one lucky little cat!
Yes he is! Definitely a big part of the family.
We are having rice salad tonight, and I’m sure our 17 year old cat will be more than willing to share.
Good to know another cat is eating as well out there.
what a sweetie – glad you guys were able to come up with something for him!
with some of the dachshunds I grew up with, as they advanced in their years my mom would make their food too – the things we do for our pets, right?
definitely part of the family!
I have never added rice to my chicken salad, yum, great twist on one of my favorites, Curt!
I’d eat it! GREG
Hey, that is one lucky cat! I would eat it as well. That is an interesting combination of ingredients. very clever curt!!
Thanks everyone! This one seems to be a pretty big hit. I kinda thought it might be.
Steve, I have to give my wife thanks for the cleverness on this one.
I love this! Our dog – believe it or not – eats holistic dog food because she is allergic to corn soy and wheat. As it turns out, a good number of Florida dogs are, but they can’t figure out why.
Anyway, she eats organic chicken and brown rice…and is the picture of health!
I know that we get our dogs teeth cleaned every 18th months or so….are they able to do that with cats?
Thanks Ann. Yep, we’ve already had Rocky’s teeth cleaned once a couple months ago. It helped quite a bit.
Fancy Feast lovers watch out! This is awesome! I really like the addition of rice.
So cute!
Rocky rocks!
That’s one lucky cat
This recipe is giving me lots of ideas for dinner.. both for us and for our cat!
And while our Eva doesn’t have any problems, ever since we got her, I’ve been extra careful with what I’m giving her since so much of the standard cat food is just junk food. So thank you for sharing
